What
African Services strives to do is best illustrated by the experiences
of our clients--thousands of diverse newcomers who utilize our health
and immigrant support services each year to build healthy, independent
lives in New York City.
Mercetaine Antilles
Mercetaine's
journey began in Haiti in 1991 when she boarded a boat bound for
Florida. "Never, never, ever say you can't do it. I learned that at
African Services. "
Anita Bhatta Charjee
Anita
grew up in Singapore, raised children in Gabone, and settled in New
York City. "Because I did not know that the HIV virus could have
already infected a married woman like me, it didn't pass through my
mind."
Steve Hemraj
Recently
granted political asylum in the U.S., Steve looks relaxed, healthy and
content. "This is a whole different feeling." He fled Guyana in 2002
and is building a new life in New York City.
Mamadou Diouf
Mamadou
Diouf mixes English with his French and Wolof when talking about
arriving in New York City from Senegal and discovering African
Services. "Ever since I got to know African Services, I've sent more
than 50 people there."
