
| Fun Times Magazine and ASC Announce Media Partnership |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEPhiladelphia, PA/Harlem, NY –December 1, 2010 FunTimes Magazine and African Services Committee have formed a media partnership. FunTimes Magazine also has joined with African Services Committee’s Anti-Stigma Campaign. “We are proud to announce our partnership with Fun Times magazine. As a magazine that has such a great reputation for serving the African and Caribbean community—our target population—we are excited to partner with them in expanding our reach and services to a broader audience,” says Stephanie Kaplan, Communications Director at African Services.
African Services Committee is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 and dedicated to improving the health and self-sufficiency of the African community in New York City and beyond. African Services provides health, housing, legal, educational, and social services to over 10,000 newcomers each year with programs that focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and support.

Sewell, Media and Community Relations The Why Stand campaign is part of African Services' HIV Stigma Initiative, a multi-year project that aims to improve health in the African & Caribbean immigrant community through creative outreach and communication that fosters dialogue, challenges stigma, and promotes understanding and compassion in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The campaign aims to break the silence and shame surrounding HIV in African and Caribbean communities, challenges the immigrant community to confront stigma, and make the choice to stand in solidarity with those who are HIV+. Several notable African and Caribbean New Yorkers have expressed their support for the campaign, even going as far as to appear in our print advertisements, including Imam Souleymane Konate of the Masjid Aqsa mosques; Madoussou Traore, the President of the Malian Women’s Association; Matel Sow, Miss Senegal USA; and acclaimed African electronic band Burkina Electric.
The campaign is reaching out to African and Caribbean immigrants in the Harlem area in various ways, including online at www.whystand.org, on social networking sites such as Twitter (@WhyStand) and Facebook (Why Stand), in print ads in community newspapers and subway posters. FunTimes Magazine serves Africa, Caribbean and the Americas. It discusses issues of social and community concerns and our mission is to enlighten, educate and entertain using humor and real life stories. We bridge cultures and bring communities together.
