African Services provides free immigration assistance and representation, as well as legal services specifically addressing the needs of people living with HIV.

Our legal team is staffed by multilingual attorneys, paralegals and client advocates who assist newcomers in navigating the immigration system and adjusting their legal status. They speak English, French, Spanish, and many African languages and provide legal advice, support and representation on issues including:

• visa matters and adjustment of status;
• political asylum cases; temporary protective status and LULAC;
• family reunification and marriage-based petitions; green card and citizenship applications;                                                                            
• work authorization cases and employment issues, including wage claims, minimum wage violation, and employment discrimination
• Housing and tenant/landlord issues.

African Services is also accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals and represent clients before USCIS adjustment interviews and immigration courts.

We work in partnership with legal advocacy coalitions across the city, including the New York Immigration Coalition, Human Rights First, Harlem Legal Services, the HIV Law Project and others to protect and promote the rights of immigrants.
