Outreach Coordinator (Short-term position)

African Services Committee (“ASC”) is a New York City-based community service organization founded in 1981 by a refugee from Ethiopia with the mission of addressing the needs of newcomers affected by war, persecution, poverty, and global health inequalities.  Our services currently include civil and immigration legal services, case management, housing assistance, English classes, HIV and other disease screening, food pantry, community outreach, and HIV and immigration reform advocacy. 

The purpose of the Outreach Coordinator’s position is: 

To increase the number of HIV-negative persons who are aware of their risk for HIV infection;

Maintain the HIV-negative status of these high-risk HIV-negative persons through a variety of activities, including, but not limited to, PrEP and PEP; and 

Combine biological and behavioral HIV prevention into a more complete package of services to address the complexity of HIV risk. 

  • Update agency and service information in the New York Knows directory. Login information will be provided by DOHMH for new users
  • Development of Program Implementation Plan to continue or expand PrEP/PEP-related services.  Development of Staff Development Plan for at least two staff that will be delivering PrEP/PEP-related services.
  • Renew/refresh contacts with African and Caribbean religious and community leaders
  • Update other linkages with clinical, legal, housing, and social services providers for referral to HIV/STD/TB, viral hepatitis, diabetes, and hypertension screening at ASC
  • Make presentations about ASC health screenings to audiences in community settings


Languages:  Fluency in French and English required

Term of employment:  Jan. 15, 2019-June 30, 2019

11 weeks, 20 hours per week
