 Basic Function of Position

  • Contributes to daily operations of Testing Center through HIV, STD, TB, and hepatitis pre- and post-test counseling, substance use screening, rapid testing, and phlebotomy
  • Up to 25% of time spent on significant data entry of testing center data as well as data entry responsibilities for other programs as well.
  • Referrals to case management of HIV positive clients
  • Follow up of clients who fail to pick up confirmatory test results
  • Baseline and quarterly surveys for all HIV positive clients.
  • Submitting of specimens NYC DOHMH.
  • Referral to HIV, STD, TB, and hepatitis further work-up and primary care of all patients diagnosed positive
  • Patient follow up to ensure engagement in and maintenance in care
  • Assists with Testing Center programming, administration, data entry and reporting.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: community outreach, education, and risk assessment, pre- and post-test HIV/STI counseling, rapid testing and phlebotomy for confirmatory testing for preliminary positives, referral of HIV-infected clients to case management, and of STI-infected clients for STI treatment, and conduct partner notification counseling for non-English speaking HIV positive clients and data entry.

Desired Qualifications

Education:

BA or BS required.

Relevant coursework in biology, immunology, virology or other AIDS-related sciences.

Prior Work Experience

Minimum 1 yr. outreach / education experience in clinical setting or research. 

HIV pre/post-test counseling skills or clinical experience desirable, as is phlebotomy certification

Post Entry Training:

Training in HIV Pre-/Post-Test Counseling, names reporting and partner notification law will be provided. Training for certification in phlebotomy.

Language Proficiency:

English fluency, second language (Spanish) desired.  French or African language a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent usage of word processing, strong writing skills, knowledge of web (web design or graphic design desirable), good presentation skills, multi-tasking.  Good interpersonal skills, sensitive to and comfortable with issues related to displaced people and HIV/AIDS.
