Delivery of HIV/AIDS Community Education and Prevention Workshops
Preventing
new cases of HIV infection remains a vital component of any successful
HIV/AIDS control strategy. Our prevention paradigm incorporates the
train-the-trainer approach to disseminate prevention messages, increase
public awareness, build individual and organizational skills, and
initiate behavioral change within the community.
Our
community education and prevention workshop model is replicable in
resource-poor settings with the potential to reach an exponentially
increasing number of people.
Community leaders are trained as HIV/AIDS health educators in order
to reach their constituencies with prevention information. Interactive
community workshops, led by the trained community leaders, impart
HIV/AIDS knowledge and skills to participants.
The workshops address a medical overview of HIV/AIDS, transmission,
prevention, treatment and behavioral change and encompass all of the
main elements of primary and secondary prevention.
