African
Services provides immigration assistance and representation for
newcomers, in addition to legal services specifically addressing the
needs of people living with HIV.
Our multilingual
legal services team is staffed by experienced attorneys, paralegals and
client advocates who assist eligible clients in navigating the
immigration system and adjusting their legal status.
They provide legal advice, support and representation on a range of issues including: visa
matters; adjustment of status; asylum, TPS, LULACK, and diversity visa
cases; family reunification and marriage-based petitions; and green
card and citizenship applications. They also handle work authorization
cases and employment issues including wage claims, minimum wage
violations, and employment discrimination.
As a Board of Immigration Appeals-accredited agency, African
Services also represents clients before USCIS adjustment interviews and
immigration courts.
Legal services are free of charge and provided in a confidential
environment. Nominal fees may be charged to cover application and
filling fees. Clients are seen by appointment and can be served in
English, French, Spanish, and many African languages.
African Services is a member of several legal advocacy coalitions
working city-wide to protect and promote the rights of immigrants,
including the New York Immigration Coalition, Human Rights First,
Harlem Legal Services and others.
