The Capital Campaign for African Services Committee
African Services launched its first capital campaign in 2004 after
nearly 25 years of service. In that time, African Services has steadily
expanded its services to meet the changing needs of African newcomers
to New York City, in the process ourgrowing our current space.
Deepening Our Roots, the capital campaign for African Services,
aims to raise the funds needed for the long-term lease and renovation
of additional space at our offices on 127th street in West Harlem. This
neghborhood has become the gateway community for immigrants from across
the African Diaspora who are settling in New York City, starting
businesses and raising families. To ensure that African newcomers
always have a place to turn for the support and resources they need to
build a promising future, its critical that African Services deepen its
roots in this changing neighborhood.
With the generous support of Henry Van Ameringen and other committeed
supporters, the capital campaign has entered its final phase. African
Services now has a 10-year lease on 127th Street and construction has
begun to transform raw loft space into new work space, counseling
rooms, an ESL classroom and computer lab for the dynamic and growing
community we serve. Today, $240,000 remains to meet the fundraising of
our ambitious capital campaign.
