Catharine
is Director of Communications responsible for promoting African
Services' mission, programs, and advocacy initiatives. She manages
media relations and external communications with key constituencies,
including the African immigrant community and its allies. She also
develops health promotion materials and public outreach campaigns. In
addition, Catharine coordinates African Services' HIV stigma initiative
that uses creative strategies to overcome discrimination at all levels
and positively affect policy impacting people living with HIV and AIDS.
Catharine spent five years in Cairo, Egypt working in public relations
at the architectural firm Dar Al-Handassah and later in non-profit
communications at the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, an
independent think tank. She has also worked as a publicist at Newsweek
magazine. She has a degree in International Development from Vassar
College and speaks colloquial Arabic.
