Mr.
Diao is the coordinator of African Services’ Infant Mortality Reduction
Initiative, a program that aims to improve maternal and child health in
Harlem and the Bronx through community outreach and health education to
new and expectant African immigrant mothers. In this role, Amadou
conducts multilingual outreach and provides referral to care, hospital
escort, medical interpretation and home visits to pre- and post-natal
women. Through community conversations and individual counseling he
shares information and resources to support home safety, safe sleep
practices, breastfeeding and nutrition that will improve health
outcomes for children. Amadou has extensive experience in community
health education and previously worked as a risk reduction counselor
with HIV positive individuals. He holds certificates in community
health education, as well as HIV counseling and testing and phlebotomy.
Before settling in the U.S., Amadou worked for 12 years in the
Senegalese Protestant Church as a health promoter conducting workshops
in parenting and as a French and Wolof teacher. Originally from
Senegal, he speaks Wolof, French and some Arabic, in addition to
English.
