Ms.
Aba Taylor is the ESOL Program Coordinator and also teaches African
Services' afternoon classes specifically serving HIV clients, as well
as evening literacy classes. As the ESOL program coordinator she is
responsible for preparing and developing curriculum, applying testing
methods, scheduling, documenting and reporting, and interfacing with
funding agencies and other community and literacy organizations. She
also works with individual students to make referrals for advanced
education, GED preparation and testing, employment and other
life-skills opportunities. Over the past six years, she has taught ESOL
and has coordinated an ESL program in New York City. She has also
worked as an ESOL tutor in Japan, has served the United Nations
Children's Fund as a women and gender mainstreaming assistant in Nepal
and has a background in AIDS activism as well. Aba was born in the U.S.
to Ghanaian immigrant parents and is a Columbia University graduate in
African-American Studies. In addition to English, she speaks colloquial
French and Spanish.
