African Services operates five HIV testing and integrated care clinics, in five regions of Ethiopia, providing more than 20,000 children, women, and men with HIV and TB testing and treatment each year, nutrition for more than 7,000 children and pregnant women, reproductive health for more than 6,000 women and girls, new shoes for nearly 18,000 children (improving school attendance and helping to prevent the spread of intestinal parasites), and income-generating support for nearly 100 families. African Services Committee’s “Come to the Table” Kitchen Campaign benefit featuring Senegalese master Chef Pierre Thiam kicked off with a magnificent show of support surrounded by the brilliant work of renowned Ethiopian artist Elias Sime at Chelsea's James Cohan Gallery on June 14. The campaign aims at raising critical support for ASC’s kitchen, nutrition education and food programs, which have taken big budget cuts in the last year.

Mauricio Noroña, a lawyer at Immigrant Community Law Center in Manhattan called the 1,900 figure, "astounding." He saw the devastating effects the mail delays had on one of his clients, whom he declined to name, saying she was afraid of repercussions from the government.
